The Group Champion (GC) has played such a key role to the success of multiple interest groups in our community.
In the process of convincing and onboarding our Group Champion, the one thing that convinced them easily was the GC profile that we created.
These were the highlights in our profile:
- Purpose of the group
- The infectious energy of our GC that resonates well with the group
- Unique skills/special powers that they bring to the table
I’m delighted to share the first Group Champion (GC) profile that we created for our Beginner Admins in Training group (which crossed 100 members recently 🎊)
We pushed this profile through quite a few revisions.
My first version almost looked like a job description (yikes). We identified a likely GC, and the profile led immediately to a conversation with their manager. We realized that the group would never get off the ground if it felt like we were looking for someone to take on an additional job. And what an easy misunderstanding! We wanted to find a person who had the right passion, a huge passion, but too few ways to act on it.. My manager
Our Intent:
This group is created for all folks who could be at any stage of their Level 1 Admin learning and preparation. Whether they are just starting out or they recently earned your Level 1 certification, they could all benefit from learning from each other.
The vision for the group is to accelerate their learning journey, ask questions, share knowledge and additional tips or even plan to e-meet and learn together with fellow group members.
It is a public group and hence can act as a small pathway to those in their early stages of discovering what being an admin looks like and might eventually become interested in becoming a Level 1 admin.
Your energy that people will respond to:
- Passionate about interacting with people in their Admin journey
- Eager to ensure an activity keeps buzzing from the start to the end
- Enthusiastic about having more admins becoming Level 1 certified & moving up to other levels
- Get happiness & satisfaction from seeing people collaborate & learn from each other
Your special powers that can help this group:
- Your Level 1 or above admin certification:
- Your knowledge can help answer few of their questions to the best of your knowledge
- You understand the different types of people on this admin journey:
- Folks who have recently got their Level 1
- Folks who are still prepping for their Level 1
- Folks who haven’t committed yet to the Level 1 exam, but have kickstarted their learning journey
- Folks who might have failed the first attempt and need more preparation before their next attempt
- Your tingling community spider sense:
- Your ability to identify conversations that involve any of the above personas and nudge them to interact with each other
- You can guide them towards answers that have already been shared/tag a member who can answer it for them
- Your futuristic power to keep the community group alive:
- All options are on the table! You can be as creative as you like. For example, should there be a monthly newsletter? Brainstorm/share your views with the Community Manager for more interesting activities on the group to keep up engagement etc
All this said, it’s totally alright if you don’t bring all of your special powers and energy every single time to the community, can’t do all of the above activities, or don’t feel like you have expert-level knowledge, you’ll still do awesome and the group will benefit from your help! 😊
A special shoutout moment 🙌:
I hope this inspires you to create your own version of a compelling GC profile, tailored to your community groups.
