We would like the ability to create hierarchical structure to the user groups

Example:

National Chapter – is the MAIN GROUP

Atlanta Chapter – Subgroup of the National Chapter / main group

Chicago Chapter – Subgroup of the National Chapter / main group

 

In addition if a person joins a subgroup they are automatically a member of the main group(s)

    yes! This fits our use case, too. We have primary groups that align with our content areas, and I would like to bring our regional groups within those primary groups to ensure our community is content-driven.
