A user reached out to me said he’s not receiving email updates from our community. In replying to him, I realized that the places he should check his settings are fragmented.

  1. Most settings are under profile settings, but not all
  2. Product Update subscriptions are completely separate
  3. Event Notification subscriptions are completely separate
  4. Each Forum Subscription is separate on the forum category page

This idea is holistic feedback that it should be possible to manage all of these in one profile settings page.

Within that is probably two core ideas:

  1. Product Update and Event subscriptions (#2 and #3 above, as well as any others I may be missing) should be added to profile settings (#1 above) and changes to subscriptions should be bidirectional (if you unsubscribe on one page, the setting updates in the other like with unsubscribe variables)

  2. Forum Subscriptions should also be able to edited from profile settings. Perhaps a multi-select drop down of the available forums and which they want to subscribe to, similar to the pick list within the Dynamic Content Widget.

@beatriz.winn for visibility.

This is super timely, given that we’re building out our system email templates (and the overall email campaign theme). If we send an email campaign and a customer opts out from there, and then they receive a notification email, I can see the potential heartburn when they realize that opting out of campaigns does not opt them out of notifications.

@Kenneth R, is there a good Community post or knowledge post that accurately sums this up? We’re looking to have some good Community FAQs at go-live, and having something concise to explain this would be fantastic.

As an example of some text I’m drafting for our footer and opt-out/preference text -- this is how convoluted it looks. We shouldn’t have to make a post like this (yellow is for Google doc comments on using the UnsubscribeURL and the idea for a “learn more” FAQ/support site post)…

Have edited this down a bit, but it’s still massively complicated.

Adding onto the chorus of voices here that these disjointed settings are confusing for users and make it difficult for businesses to adhere to privacy regulations.

We are exploring this option. Currently in discovery. This idea is valid and we will work on it

In the meantime, does anyone with more API experience (@DannyPancratz?) know if there’s any way to consolidate Community subscriptions/notifications settings into a global preference center via API or anything like that?

Nothing I know. Glad to see some movement on this idea.
