A simpler (and perhaps quicker to deliver) option of these two ideas would be to have an API operation for removing points. Essentially the opposite of this Assign Points operation (note US link).

that way, if you have a use case, you could automate via Zapier or a similar tool. Within the UI of Control would also be helpful, but unless/until that becomes a critical feature there, the API could solve it.
