The tools we use are crucial to maintaining a healthy, engaging, and safe environment. That's why we're excited to announce a significant update to the Topic Moderation Page (TMP) - a major milestone in our suite of moderation tools.

A Technical Leap Forward 🤓

It all started with a vision to enhance the TMP by reducing defects, using new technologies and ensuring feature parity across different content types. This change was driven by our commitment to innovation and delivering the best possible experience for our moderators and community managers.

  1. Preserving Core Functionalities. Understanding the importance of continuity, we ensured that all essential functionalities of the existing TMP are retained in the new version. However, to align with our goals of efficiency and modernisation, certain features like the IP popup, Profile popup, and tracking of personal unread replies with a scroll to new reply function were not carried forward. This decision was made considering the high implementation cost and our focus on more impactful features.

  2. Short-Term Benefits: Enhanced Experience. Immediately, we should notice fewer bugs and small yet significant UI improvements. We are also adding functionalities like attachments in Product Updates and ideas on control and destination, enhancing the moderation process's versatility and effectiveness.

  3. Long-Term Benefits: A Foundation for Future Growth. Looking ahead, the refactored TMP sets the stage for rapid and seamless integration of new features. It opens up possibilities for moderating additional content types such as educational materials or event-related discussions. Moreover, the redesigned UX/UI will not only make moderation more intuitive but also more enjoyable.

Celebrating Progress and Team Effort 🚀

The team's dedication and collaborative spirit have been the driving forces behind this successful refactoring. The new TMP is the team’s commitment to our community managers and moderators, to provide the best tools to foster vibrant and safe online communities.

This update is a significant step forward in that journey, and we're excited about the future possibilities it unlocks!

Thank you all for your ongoing support and feedback, which have been and is invaluable in this process 🙌

Sounds great 👌 I have only one question in my mind - when we can test new TMP 😄

  3.

Emphasis mine.

Does this mean that feature parity for Product Update is also coming? For example, we still cannot move replies from a Product Update to another topic. Which is a feature we are sorely missing.

@revote and all! The plan is to release it for a few customers first to make sure everything goes smoothly, and then release it to all general availability. We’ll need one week or so to validate, so you can expect to test it very soon!

Hi @Erik_ , this whole refactor is indeed a major step into feature parity for Product Update. The one you specifically mention, move replies from a Product Update to another topic, will be easier to implement in the future once we tackle it. I am afraid we do not have a specific timeline for that one specifically though.

Hi @Manon, in the previous TMP there was a useful function when mentioning people. When you start a message with @, the users who have been active in the topic show up as option. With the new TMP this doesn't happen anymore in Control, Destination is still doing this, but we're the majotity of our replies in Control. Is this an option that will return, or is it currently a bug?

This will help us in our use case where we don’t want every TMP user to have access to very personal information.

Hi @Jasper - thanks for raising your issue - yes this is currently a bug that one of our team is looking into. Hopefully this should be solved soon :)

Is there a mock-up or a screenshot from somebody who is already using this? It would be helpful to know what changes so we can update our moderators before the change.

What is IP popup?

Is it the view where I can see what was the user´s ip where posted? If so, where to check this, I cant find any more?

Also, please bring it back. It was helpful and important info as well. For example, now I cant see if there are people with several profiles...

We would also love to keep (return) that option for this purpose. If someone has 2 accounts there is no way to see that with the new TMP.

Hi @Jasper and @revote - thanks both for your feedback, always super valuable. The team took your feedback and will make what is possible to make the user’s IP available, maybe in a different form than the IP popup. We’ll keep you posted!

Super, thanks a lot 👌

Any news about this, is it too early to ask?

Hi @Manon, I'm also curious if there is an update on this front

We noticed something else in the new TMP; sometimes the Like button doesn't work, or it has a delay. Refreshing the page once restores the functionality. Other times it does work without the need for refreshing. Marking as answer occasionally does the same thing.

Is this also a bug?

Is it possible our community has not received this update yet? Our overview is still the same.

Any updates on the IP pop up @Manon ? 😊

Hi @Suvi Lehtovaara! Curious to know what the use case is to know the user’s IP?

Hi @Sudhanshu !

Our usecase is pretty much the same as @Jasper and @revote have, we’ve also used this tool to help us understand whether a banned user is trying to make a comeback 🙈
