We are happy to release a new gamification mechanics. You can now award ranks to users based on points🧮

Previously ranks and point were two standalone gamification systems. They can now be connected 🔗

How to award ranks based on points:

  • Go to Control> Gamification> Ranks
  • Click on an exiting rank OR create a new rank and click Add rank
  • In the list of criteria How to get this rank you see the field Minimum points earned. Simply fill in that value.
  • aOptional] You can fill other criteria related to the user activity and customize your rank like you would do for any other rank
  • Click Save changes
  • Return to the Rank overview page and click Rebuild to make sure the ranks will be recalculated based on the changes you made

Check out this KB article for more details around setting up ranks

When to use ranks based on points:

With point based ranks, you can:

  • set up simple ranks based on points only
  • be more flexible and have more complexity in the configuration on existing ranks
  • make sure super super users that have a lot a lot of points can still reach some ranks even if they have not reach activity thresholds
  • If API integration is set up to award external points, these points can be taken into account when users progress through ranks

As always we would love to hear your feedback on this feature

Thank you for the team for this development!

I’d find it interesting to hear from community teams that are implementing this, and what they’re going for.

Point-only ranks, or using points in combination with other requirements?

@timcavey we have a SME program that’s based on a combination of points and answers. So this will help us a bit.

It was designed when we used Stack Overflow, so there are other components (points over a month) that we don’t yet have the tools for on Insided, so we may need to adjust or still do some elements manually.

This is awesome! Thanks for taking our feedback into consideration @Marion Frecaut !!!
