Well, I was interested in attending the upcoming Super User event, but this doesn’t feel very “Opt-in” friendly:

Curious how you all approach compliance when it comes to consent for processing and how your relationship with marketing might influence this approach. Do you give your users more control over their data or do you require them to consent to marketing in order to participate in community activities?

(Also, wasn’t sure where data management fits in the discussion board categories, so appreciate your patience while I learn.)

Hi @techlorax

I appreciate the feedback. We use a tool called BigMarker for our webinar events. The check box to receive emails is outside of our control and not created by our marketing team. I believe BigMarker uses the consent box because in order to register you for the event, they will need to send you the registration email and the reminder emails for the event.

What I can do is reach out to BigMarker and provide them with this feedback from our customers, and see if by consenting to this box, the user would be signing up for BigMarker marketing emails. However, I have signed up for our events in the past and have not received any marketing emails.

To be safe, I can also send you a recording of the event afterwards from my personal email.

Hi @techlorax,

I’ve reached out to BigMarker inquiring about the consent box. Unfortunately, it can not be removed because they need your permission to send information about the webinar you’re signing up for. However, I was able to confirm that no marketing emails would be sent by opting in.

We are able to change the copy of the content box so I’ve changed it to, “Yes, I consent to receiving emails for this specific emails (no marketing emails)”

That's awesome, thanks for the follow up @Jeanie Lee

You got it! :innocent:
