Inconsistent behavior with search bar in dashboard filter screen

The way that the search bar works in dashboard filters is inconsistent with the way search bars behave in the rest of the product. 

In other areas of Gainsight, clicking inside the search bar allows the user to begin typing at the cursor. See example in reports builder:

But in the dashboard global filter builder, clicking in the search bar causes the search window to close. This is inconsistent and frustrating.
