Unable to formulate a total percentage when using summation

I came across the same need just recently.

The best I could do is the use the average function for the % but averaging percentages is not the same as the true percentage of the totals because the weight of each line is not taken into account.

I totally agree. My current work-around is exporting the file and calculating it on spreadsheets. This method is not scalable.

We have released only Phase 1 of formula fields where you can work on a single row

formula. But I understand the phase 1 does not solve a lot of usecases like the ones you have mentioned above. We will be improving formula capability in Reporting and Data Management to accurately calculate the case you mentioned. Meanwhile, can you share a screenshot of the report or the Fomula screen? This helps us in understanding it more.
