When did the default comment order change? Previously it was the oldest first, but now the newest is showing first on the control end. Is there a site option that allows this to be reverted back?

Hi @KathrynMCarter ! Thank you for asking! This is a change available since we enabled the new topic moderation page in control, Indeed we had many customers asking for this feature in the community, as you can see in this thread for instance :)

It would greatly help the team to better understand the rationale behind having replies sorted by Oldest first, so we can potentially adjust the change and see how it fits within the community! Thank you!

@Manon I see how it would be helpful to folks who have hundreds of replies on one post; however, within my community, I rarely scroll far. Additionally, when reading the comment you are replying to, it is helpful not to scroll to refer back to the top to reread the comment.

Great start - Need on this view as a regular user on Discussions, Questions, Articles, IDEAS… please! :)

Hi all,

@Manon I see how it would be helpful to folks who have hundreds of replies on one post; however, within my community, I rarely scroll far. Additionally, when reading the comment you are replying to, it is helpful not to scroll to refer back to the top to reread the comment.

For us it's not helpful even though we have hundreds of replies on one post. If we have it sorted by newest first, you are not able to read the replies you are responding to. So I have to use two tabs in my browser, so I can switch between them and read the comments I want to respond to.

I could quote the comments, but sometimes there are 5/6 replies that need responding and quoting all of them wouldn't be the best option, aesthetic wise.

Also: when you have to read multiple replies (sometimes 10-12), it's also not the easiest to read them all, when newest first is applied.

Because articles, questions and conversations are still oldest first, it's confusing every time you open a Product Update. My mind needs to remind itself for a second to press ‘oldest first’ and continue to read.

Hi @Marcia , thank you for your detailed answer, which makes total sense. The team added a feature flag to enable communities who want to have their newest replies first by default. Therefore, the sorting default should be back to oldest first. Thanks all for your input and collaboration on this, and apologies for any inconvenience!

Thanks, @Manon!
