Hi - I am having a hard time finding out how to change the color (background and font) on the ‘events’ and ‘product updates’ pages. This is what the top banner looks like. Do I change this in control or destination? Or does it come from some other configuration I might not have done right?

Hi Christine! In the bottom right corner you will see Theme > Colors, you can then change the "Page heading color". This will also affect other headers so if you don't want that you can add a custom CSS header for the Events page like inSpired community has.
If you ever had a profile with us, there's no need to create another one.
