I want to edit the colors on the CTA below the header image on the homepage. But I cant find out where it is placed in the control area. Can you give me a pointer?

In the Control Panel you can go to "Appearence" -> "Colors". On that page you scroll down to this part:
You need to uncheck both checkboxes. Then you can define the colors for the background and the text on the right side.

Is there a way to remove the widget? to turn it off

this widget cannot be turned off as a feature, however a user will only see it once until he/she closes it:
Then it will not be displayed again. It can also be hidden by applying some custom CSS styling via Third-Party-Scripts.
