How does the Introductions Widget work?

If a user closes it, will they never see it again?

What if that widget is removed and a new introductions widget is added?

I’d love some documentation on this widget, but can’t really find it.

Hey @DannyPancratz 👋,

Just to confirm you are referring to the Introduction Bar widget, correct?

If a user closes this widget they will see it again upon refreshing the page or returning to it. This means they will still see the widget if a new introductions widget is added to replace the one that has been removed.

This is the only reference I could find to it in our documentation:

I’m curious to hear how you would like this widget to work for your use case? I’ll feed this back to our Product team so that we can improve the behaviour of this widget.

Thanks 😁

Thanks, @olimarrio

Yep. I appreciate the info.

I’m a bit confused. I interpret “If they refresh the page or return to it” to mean that they’ll essentially see it every time they visit, regardless if a new introductions bar widget is added or not. Is that correct?

I can probably live with it working however it works, but need clearer documentation to see if it’s a fit for a use case or not.

But if my reading of how this works is correct (and they see it every time), I’d say that the intro-bar-closing functionality is counterintuitive / not very useful. Based on the UX, I’d assume that when someone closes the widget, they don’t see it again every (via cookie or whatever technical solution would do that). That would seem to fit the use case of an introductions bar as well: new users see this until they dismiss it, but experienced/frequent users don’t see it every time.

I was exploring whether or not I could repurpose it as a way to flag that our community T&C and guidelines have been updated. That’s not the intended use case, but was thinking that it could be used to show to everyone upon visiting after a T&C have been updated. But it wound up much more complicated and I just decided to use an automated email campaign instead.

Thanks again for the help.

Happy to help @DannyPancratz 😁

Yes I fully agree with your feedback, the behaviour of the widget doesn’t make a lot of sense as it stands. Let me check with our Product team if this is behaving as it should be.
