Some of our superusers are asking whether they’d be able to see how many views their topics get.

Currently they can only see the date and number of replies. (Whereas I can see topic views, too).

How would I enable this - anyone know? I’m wondering if there’s a way to switch it on by default for all community users, or for specific groups/roles?

I think this is an important activation/engagement feature. If a user has spent time posting some interesting content, it encourages them to see page views of it.

@m4rc The number of views should be viewable for all users, even anonymous users.

If any user opens any topic, there should be the timestamp, number of replies and number of views at the top. This has nothing to do with the user role, as far as I know (and I just tested it as an anonymous user in an incognito tab too).

In the activity stream, however, some content types show different stats:

  • Articles: number of likes, number of views, number of comments, last activity
  • Questions / discussions: number of likes, number of comments, last activity
  • Idea: number of comments, last activity

But, then again, if anyone opens any of these topics, the number of views will show up at the top, right below the title.

Thanks for helping out @bjoern_schulze

I’ve just tested this topic https://community.purepla.net/all-about-renewables-and-sustainability-18/links-to-ethical-and-environmentally-friendly-companies-4931 and the number of views does show on desktop in incognito, but not on mobile (Safari on iPhone)

Might that be the reason? That it’s desktop only?

Yes, that’s most likely the reason: Usually we, as the community managers, use the community on our computers, whereas most of the users visit the community on their smartphones.

On mobile, the content is displayed differently, due to “real estate” reasons. There is simply less space on the screen available to show information, so some fields are hidden on mobile.
