Been noticing folks on my community ‘liking’ their own content and getting points. Is there a way to prevent folks from liking their own content? or is the system operating as designed.

Hey @aluciani - thanks for bringing this to our attention. This is actually a bug - users shouldn’t be able to earn points for liking their own content (right now it awards points for giving a like to yourself). I’ve created a support ticket on your behalf to track this.

Hi @daniel.boon

Has this bug been resolved yet?

Thanks

@Milla @aluciani this bug is now resolved - thanks for your patience.

Thank you @daniel.boon

Hi all, I wanted to check on this old thread as we have someone gaming the system in our community with self likes. Is this in fact a bug that can be solved or is it something we need to advocate for as a new feature?

Hi @Jen Hanley - the way this works is that you are, technically, able to like your own topics and replies.  However, those likes will not contribute to your points score. The discussion above was related to an issue from a few years ago where a bug temporarily meant that it did contribute to points.  That got fixed.

Note that generally, likes are easy to ‘game’, so if you have challenges with that in your community it can be a good practice to minimise their impact in the gamification systems, or even exclude them entirely.

@Kenneth R just had a super user complain about a newbie liking their own posts. Thank you for clarifying this info in the thread. This really helped us smooth things over!

Great to hear @Johnk :)
