Should email notifications for privtate messages take members directly to the message?

If a community member subscribes to email notifications for private messages, should the link in the email take them directly to their messages ‘inbox’ in the community? Or is it intended to take them to the homepage?

We’ve a superuser who expects that the link from the email should take him straight to the ‘inbox’. I’m not sure what to advise him.

I’d personally say that going to the inbox makes more sense on this one. If the user clicks on a link that sounds like Click here to read the new PM! It would seem a bit strange to be dropped straight on the homepage.

It sounds like you might need to update the template for Private Messages. Here’s an example one that should do the trick. I grabbed the details from 

Howdy {recipient_username}!

Looks like {sender_username} is trying to reach out to you. Click the button below check out the new message.

{pm_url}

Something like that should work. As long as those variables are in there, the link should work as intended.

Yes, that’s how ours is set up. It looks like our members are receiving the notifications OK, but that the link to read the private message is broken.

I’ll raise a support ticket

That’s strange.

I just went back through my emails to pull out one of the notifications I got recently from another member and tested that link, which definitely worked as expected. Would you be ok to share the template you’ve got here @m4rc ? I might be able to figure out whether something’s broken in there.
