I’m building out a data fields glossary for all of the data fields in GCC reports. One that is tripping me up is the visible data field on the Topics report. It appears to be a Yes/No boolean, but everything appears to be marked as Yes all the time.

I thought it might be referencing whether or not a report list item is “visible” anywhere in the system (i.e. frontend OR backend) but that theory proved false when I trashed and purged a topic as a test. The topic_status reads as purged and the topic is no longer accessible in the system in any way, but it still appears in the Topic report and the “visible” value still reads as Yes for it. 🤔

Anyone have a clue what this field means or what its practical use might be?

Thank you in advance for the help!

It’s a record of all articles, the visible tab will tell you if it is:

  • Visible
  • Purged

For deleted Topic tracking :)

Hi @juan.delrio! Thank you for the response 😁 What you mentioned is the topic_status column, but I’m trying to understand the purpose of the visible column (outlined below). The Yes/No status of the visible column doesn’t seem to be affected by topic_status at all, which seems really strange.

Even a purged topic will still appear as a Yes.

Hey @maxwell.malone - great question. I have a theory (based on some testing I’ve done as well) and am confirming with our Product folks.  Will circle back asap.  :)

Thanks @Kenneth R! I’m excited to hear what you discover!

The only value not Yes are articles I have deleted. Visibility for analytics maybe?

@Kenneth R Following up to see if you were able to get a definitive answer from your Product org!

@juan.delrio I was thinking that may be the case as well, but thought it would be kind of silly logically to have something supposedly not visible for analytics still showing up in reporting 😛 you may still be right though!

Hey @maxwell.malone - I’ve not been able to get a definitive technical answer, but let me share my theory.  I suspect that this field is deprecated (based on older functionality) and can simply be ignored.  We can instead focus on using the ‘Topic Status’ field, as mentioned already in this topic, which correctly displays if a topic is ‘visible’ or ‘trashed’.

Thank you, @Kenneth R! I’ll just move forward with that in mind 😁

I appreciate the assistance!
