Thanks for asking this. I’m interested in what GS says.
According to this reddit post, it seems like it’s likely just tracking the CC platform is doing of link clicks because it’s hosted on AWS.
There have been ideas for metrics around system emails (sent, opens, clicks, etc) that I believe I saw they were considering for future enhancements. Perhaps this is a sign of that?
There’s also the data lake feature in the works, which will have a lot more individual data points. Perhaps it’s collecting data on system email clicks for that?
To answer one of your questions - we noticed it as early as when email campaigns were available on Gainsight CC.
Hi @FMEEvangelist ,
@DannyPancratz is correct, this is used as part of a click-tracking system that provide the statistics that are currently available with the Email Campaigns functionality e.g. Opened, Clicked, Unsubscribed.
I’ll check with our Product team why this is included in all emails, including our System Emails. My best guess is the same as Danny’s, it’s likely we’re looking to provide you more statistics for these (I don’t want to make any promises before I check internally with our Product team though).
Thanks @olimarrio
I guess that really I’m asking if this is usual as well as what it’s tracking. If it’s normal to do this and we have just one member with an IT team that’s over-active in blocking URLs, then that’s their problem.
But if we have (for example) 25% of members unable to click links because these things are routinely blocked by IT departments (or firewalls or virus filters), then it’s more of an issue for us.
Sorry, I just don’t know enough about this sort of thing
@FMEEvangelist yes this is usual. We have an article being released on the community soon that explains it in more detail but essentially the awstrack.me URLs are automatically generated by Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Simple Email Service (SES). They allow us to:
- Monitor email engagement: Track clicks, opens, and other interactions to ensure emails are reaching their destination and being engaged with.
- Measure reputation metrics: Understand how well emails are performing, and monitor bounce rates or spam complaints to maintain high deliverability standards.
By tracking these metrics, we are able to identify potential issues with email delivery and optimise performance, ensuring that your email notifications are delivered reliably and with the best possible reputation.
In short, they are a standard part of the email tracking system used by AWS and are vital to ensuring high deliverability for all customers. It’s likely an over-active IT team that is blocking these links but if you suspect this is affecting more of your community members we will happily investigate this for you.
