Why is moving topic considered a new topic in a subforum?

When you, as moderator, move a topic to another subforum, all people subscribed to the subforum will receive a message. This can be confusing as some topics are already a month old but were in the wrong subforum. In addition, the mail also says that a new topic has been created, which is not the case.

Hi Moller,

yes, totally see what you mean. I have the very same on our community here of course.

In certain situations, it is not even a problem. Let’s say a user asks the question in the wrong category, and a Moderator moves it to the correct one shortly after it has been created. Then the users who have subscribed to a category will see that there is new, recent content which they might want to engage with. Of course it is not a good experience at all if the same happens for a question that has been asked years ago.

As we are aware of this, we actually did some research as to how this could be improved a while ago. Unfortunately, it turned out to be much more work and also relatively confusing to use, so we are currently aiming for a different solution (which will still give you the option to disable notifications moving content to a different category).

I hope to be able to share some good news with you on this topic in the near future, probably in a few weeks we will know more and share it in a roadmap update. Unfortunately I don’t have more detailed info about when the work on this will be started. But I will keep you posted on any progress!
