Could anyone point me to the release notes or information about the notification feed visible on communities.gainsight.com? It’s the new button with a bell icon on the top right of the page.

No docs yet. They’re beta testing it. They haven’t announced an Open Beta, but it shows up here for me:

Control > Settings > Open Betas

They’ve teased this in the road map previously and it’s finally at minimum viable product stage (IMO), but still needs a lot of work (IMO) before I’m looking to use it on my community.

How it works (as far as I can tell) is that it’s an in-app replica of all the things you’d get system emails for. So is it helpful? Sure.

But it is not yet a separate or complementary experience where you can unsubscribe for system emails and rely on the in-app notifications. If you turn off the system email settings, you won’t get the notifications. It’s the same settings.

And that’s why you don’t see notifications for things that there aren’t system email notifications about (likes or votes on ideas).

And, yes, there aren’t any release notes or documentation articles you can reference because it’s still very much early days.

Personally, I’ll likely be waiting until there are separate settings for in-app notifications vs email and/or net-new notifications (likes) before I enable for my community. But it’s nice to get to experience it as an end-user here on this community.

Thanks so much for the summary @DannyPancratz , always with the big hits!

I activated it in my community but it wasn’t showing up on the front-end. I thought I might have missed a step.

Excited to see what else Gainsight rolls out. It’s a step in the right direction and like you said it’s nice to experience it on this community as an end-user.

It might be that it’s not actually ready for Open Beta yet (since they didn’t announce it).

I have activated it couple of weeks ago (we are some kind of early birdie). I told our users that it is in beta so they understand that it will be improved during the time.

They love this feature!

@Kenneth R for the team: when it gets to Open Beta, it’d be great if we had the option to enable for super users, but not all users. This, but with the super user role added.

Enable this to activate In-App Notifications to Moderators, community Managers and Administrators.
