Groups search bar - no filter option for groups or a specific group

Recently a new feature was rolled out that meant, if the search bar was used within a category, a tag was added to the search that ensure that the search results only show topics from that category. 


This is good.

 

I notice that the same functionality doesn’t exist for groups. When I use the search bar in a group, it takes me to search but it just looks at my search term. There is no filtering for groups. There isn’t even an option to select groups or a specific group in the search results. 

 

This is a limitation. 

 

We use a hidden group for staff members. If they use the search bar in that group, I want the search results to exclude anything outside of that group. 

 

Am I correct in thinking this functionality is missing?

Hey @timcavey 👋,

This could well be a limitation for our Groups module as one of our newer modules. It may have also been a decision made by product as typically we find there are less topics in Groups in general compared to categories that are available to more users. Let me check with our Product team and get back to you on this one 😊

This is interesting. A groups module can be anything a client wants it to be, including a big topic with lots of members. If the group module isn’t optimised for this we should have that made clear.

Yes fully agree @timcavey, my last reply was mostly me thinking out loud about potential reasons for this gap 🤔 but I’ll get confirmation of this from our Product team.

Hi @timcavey 👋,

Just closing the loop on this one: we’ll be looking to bring feature parity for Groups so that the search works similarly to when you search within a category. We’ll get it included in the scope for our improvements of Groups coming later this year 💪

Just circling back to this one. At the moment Gainsight present a search bar on every group page, with default text that says “Search for existing topics here”.

 

If current functionality is that group activity can’t be filtered out, why have a search bar there at all, let alone one indicated filter capability?
