Is it possible to turn replies off for specific topics?

We are looking for a way to turn replies off for Knowledge base topics. Feedback is great, but we feel that public replies on official documentation will look messy and be a pain to moderate.

Is it possible to do?

Hi Agnes,

Have you tried closing these topics? They will stay visible after closing them, but replying isn't possible anymore. You can close a topic by using the switch in the back-end.

Thanks a lot @Monique, I see.

Is there any way to remove the 'This topic has been closed for comments' footer from a closed topic?
You're welcome! I'm not sure if it's possible the remove the footer, but you could try removing the text from the footer. You'll find the phrase and the possibility to edit in your back-end: General settings > Phrases. You can use this key to find the phrase really fast: topic.closed.info_message.

Hi all,

thanks Monique for providing the right information here!

I'm not sure if it's possible the remove the footer, but you could try removing the text from the footer.

I think you cannot simply leave it empty, as the system would detect that there is no actual text to display. But I have a small trick which can help in this case (and in other, similar cases): Simply add a bit of HTML code which displays it as empty. If I enter it like this, only an empty bar will be displayed:

Unfortunately I cannot paste this code 1:1 in here, as HTML code is currently being filtered by our editor, but you can replace the brackets according to how it is in the screenshot:

[span id="delimiter" class="Delimiter"][/span]

Another small tip which I wanted to share here: If you want to close an entire category for new comments, this is also possible under [Forum settings] - [Forum structure]. Simply remove the rights for normal registered users to create comments and all topics will be closed by default.

Cheers,

Julian
