In my opinion, badges are a great way to show appreciation to the quality and added value of the content community users are providing. It is easy for anybody to post a lot on a community (like complaining about their own issues); but the most value doesn’t come from the pure quantity (like number of topics or number of comments), it comes from the (perceived) quality of the content. The quality is measured in the feedback or reactions any piece of content gets.
Also, added value can be measured in different ways, like the interaction with all the content (like discussions, events, groups). For example: Right now I can’t distinguish between users who post a lot of questions and users who start conversations. But both content types target different community strategies / pillars.
So, because currently the rules are pretty limited regarding automatic badges, I want to list some examples of rules that I really think would be a great addition to the current badges:
- award users who receive a lot of likes (quality factor)
- award users who vote on a lot of ideas (feedback and engagement factor)
- award users who receive a lot of votes on ideas (quality factor)
- award users who create a lot of discussions (engagement factor / non-service user generated content)
- award users who have logged in a lot of times (engagement factor / monthly active users, daily active users)
- award users who have logged in a number of days in a row (engagement factor / daily active users)
- award users who have filled out their full profile (engagement factor)
- award users who have shared a lot of community content via the social sharing widget (reach factor)
- award users who RSVP to a lot of events (engagement factor)
- award users who have been active in a lot of user groups (feedback, quality and engagement factor)
- award users who vote in a lot of polls (feedback and engagement factor)
