What:
Please build feature where we can archive content, basically hide it, and set automatic redirection for the traffic to the new content.
Why:
There are use cases when content is outdated (article or discussion). And you might get lots of traffic to it from the search engines. You want to provide relevant / updated content to your users so you want to hide outdated content and redirect them to the relevant content.
You can update the articles, sure, but updating the discussions isn´t something you want to do.
So hiding the outdated content and redirecting the traffic to the new location is the only way to offer relevant content to the user. And, with this solution you don´t start from scratch if you think about visibility in the search engines.
How:
For example from Control / Content view, there could be menu where you can move content to the archive and within that you add url to the new content.
When you archive content, users can´t find it anymore. When they find it from search engines they are automatically redirected to the new content. Same thing if they have the url in their bookmarks as well.
