Took me a while to figure out the right combination of permissions in the new permission bundles config to allow users to view Survey responses via the C360 Survey section without giving them broad access to the Survey module.  In Permission Bundles I set the following permissions:

  • Survey Permissions:  “Analyze” ON
  • Navigation Permissions → Digital Journey: “Survey Preview” ON

This gives me the exactly functionality I need, except it exposes “Digital Journey” in the left hand navigation menu for end users, and when you click on “Digital Journey” you just get an infinite spinning circle:

To be clear - I don’t want end users broadly having access to the Survey module directly. There’s no reason for them to be in there, even in view only mode.

So I shouldn’t have to expose the “Digital Journey” menu heading in order to grant them the ability to view individual survey responses from the C360.

There has been some flavor of this issue for a while - I remember having to allow users permissions to the survey admin area to view responses under the old permissions bundles. It’s super common for us to want our users to be able to self-serve these responses, but in most cases that doesn’t extend to accessing areas where potentially-damaging changes could be made.

Best case, this is confusing and could be more clear. Worst case, we’re required to take a measurable risk in allowing access to areas where config changes can be made in order to allow users to view commonly-requested data on their own.

This makes perfect sense. Admins should be able to more finely-tune user permissions, like so:

  • Permission bundles: easily assign a *standard* set of permissions
  • Custom permission bundles: assign a standard set of permissions, but add/remove permissions as necessary to achieve the desired permission setup.

This is “working by design” folks.

Boggles the mind that this was intentional.

Yup… enhancement request. Right.

That seems legit.
