Hi all

With @Bosco, we discussed how we might be able to automatically write an update date (datetime) stamp on a company field when a field in the Company object is update with real time rules and external actions.

We have noticed that:

  1. When you “click” on a multi-select picklist field in C360, and it opens the dropdown with the checkboxes, even if you DO NOT modify values, when you exit it triggers an update event.
  2. When you do the same on a single picklist, it DOES NOT. It also does not on string fields.

I can easily understand why, however, we’re looking for a way to update a timestamp field when a value is “refreshed”. A value may not change, but it may need to be refreshed or confirmed as “still being true”. A bit like what the Health Score allows us to do, to refresh a manual measure and to consider it as an update even if the value doesn’t change.

I know that triggering update events whenever one goes into a field, potentially by accident, while not changing anything, is going to create a huge mess.

But could we think of a way to “revalidate” or “refresh content” in standard or custom fields to say: “hey, this is still current” so we could leverage that into health score, and other places.

Thoughts?

What a wild inconsistency!

Not a great process for end users, but could you add a dummy picklist value they select, and then reselect the “correct” value? You could then potentially set your filter to only trigger when Old value = dummy value and new value = different value.

It might need a bit of finesse, and would require a double action from your users, but might work as a workaround?

Interesting idea @bradley . I think we could train them to do that (although, as you say, not great and it shows some of the hidden workarounds they don’t usually get to hear about :)). @Bosco What do you think?
