Hi Amanda, let me connect with you directly via email on this. Timeline automatically logs who created the activity based on who the logged in user is, so there's no need for anyone to type in their name.

We would like for GS to truly be a one stop shop for our teams. Having items in timeline that are not manually logged interactions would be highly valuable (closed won opportunity (expand, add-on, etc), lifecycle stage change, escalations of critical accounts).

This would be huge for us as well

This would be used by my team to update Timeline from SF events for Sales and other teams not in GS.

+1 Would love this feature specifically for automatically logging lifecycle stage changes and other milestones to the Timeline, especially since the Milestones features seems to be phased out.

I would also be interested in using rules to generate timeline activities. We want to take the description from completed tasks and set them as timeline entries. (call notes are logged at the task level)

This would allow managers to search those notes instead of digging through past task records individually. Having Reps manually create a timeline entry to log their notes in timeline seems like an extra, and unnecessary, step!

Hello everyone. I have nothing to add to this in terms of describing the feature other than I really need it as well. Seems like this feature has been requested going back to 2017 (!). All we need to do is being able to write to the timeline which, obviously, would make the timeline a hell of a lot more useful if we showed all touch points we have with customers as opposed to one touch point (the CSM). And, obviously, we can't manually enter all this...no one will do it. Bring it Gainsight!!!!

Still really need this feature. Any update??

@nitisha_rathi Can you provide the Community with an update on this enhancement request for Timeline? It's very popular and has a lot of requests for updates! I believe it's in progress, but I don't want to misspeak on the eta.

Hi community, some exciting news on this front coming with Gainsight’s December content update. We are planning to provide functionality that will let you sync activities from SFDC to Timeline via a configurable automation job. Stay tuned to the Product Updates topic area to be notified when this feature is released! https://community.gainsight.com/product-news-updates-6

Super excited about the new release, but it seems like it is super limiting.  We have an object that is not being pulled in.
Is there anyway we could push updates directly from a custom object in GS?

@amanda_neil How would you use this CSM field? Would this be used in reporting?

+1.

Every week my team members will get the smart sheet with the Timeline Notes along with the Customer Name or Relationship Name. So we have to open those C360/R360 pages respectively and have to enter the Timeline notes Manually. So it would very help full if we can automate this process, so it saves a lot of time.

Thanks.

would be interesting to have this available.

Due to a limitation on the Activity integration cannot map a picklist field in SF to a dropdown type field in GS, only solution is to map to a string field. Would like to use a rule engine in order to populate the right field.

We are not planning to open up rules action in Timeline in short/ medium term. Having said that, we definitely want to build more OOB integrations with Timeline like integration with GonG.io, Chorus, Hubspot etc. Please do let us know if you think we should integrate with any other external system.

Disappointing. Clearly a lot of GS clients want this. A whole host of valid use cases have ben laid out over the last 18-24 months. Why does GS insist on preventing what would be a very helpful function? And please don’t revert to ‘there would be too much noise’, clients can determine for themselves what is too much noise.

That is disappointing. Is there a technical limitation to use rules for creating timeline activities?

I have 2 use cases and I upvoted already:

  1. Update timeline when we have a renewal, expansion or new business opp close in SFDC, bringing that history into the timeline.
  2. We have implemented an Exec Summary status field in SFDC and would like to copy that status update into the timeline..

This seems to be another feature that has been on the request list for 4+ years, promised 4+ years ago, but not yet implemented.

Hi,

This is definitely on the roadmap but will be available post 3-4 releases. I will communicate the ETA once it is decided.

Thanks,
Nitisha

Thanks!
