On a previous platform I was able to spin up a custom page and populate it with various community widgets and HTML blocks.

For instance, we had a user conference coming up so we were able to create a discussion forum for attendees, resource blocks, fancy artwork (banners, sidebar elements) consistent with the theme of the conference, and general information about the event (more HTML). Once the conference was over we just pulled the page and archived the particular discussion forum.

You could also set the custom URL for the custom page so it worked as a vanity URL

Hey there @kaponte !

I’m just a user myself rather than an inSided employee, so my comments don’t represent any official opinions.

Personally, I’d probably recommend against trying to throw loads of Custom HTML in for something like this, especially if it’d be heavily at odds with the rest of your community. The further away you break off from the main Branded Templates, the harder it’d be for yourself (and inSided) to maintain without things going kaboom. This is actually one of the reasons inSided changed from completely custom templates to the current Branded Templates a few years back - it’s much easier to maintain and makes life easier in general.

However, there might be something similar which could be possible in the future, such as allowing a bit more flexibility in the widgets (allowing overrides for particular categories might be a possible one!).

Or perhaps another way to flex this idea a bit would be to allow some kind of override that lets you have specific stuff break out of your main themes and be adapted for the event - but it’s also worth bearing in mind that users often prefer consistency.

If anything, it’s safer to try to keep within what the platform offers without breaking out Custom HTML where possible. The more stuff that can be maintained by inSided’s developers, the easier it is to maintain and the less likely it’d be for things to break. The advantage of that is that everyone else who uses inSided could also get these features too. :)

Thanks.

Like I said, it was a pretty successful use case on the last platform I used (Personify Community). The custom HTML page did not affect the templated pages. It just gave you the flexibility to create a temporary meeting space (for engagement purposes) based on a particular theme or event.

At minimum, would love to see the ability to add a widget or two to a particular category page as you mention in your reply.

Thanks!
