We have a newish community that has just passed the 6 month mark and we are starting to engage with and reward our most active and helpful members. I recently discovered a flaw in our ranking structure which has kept at least one top member “stuck” at a low rank because he is a “responder” rather than a “conversation starter.” He has posted 58 replies and 16 best answers, but has never posted a new topic. The rank structure (created before I joined the team) assumes that people who are active will create at least a few new topics along with replies. What is the best way to fix this so that our members can move up in ranks if they reply a lot even if they do not post new topics? I am sharing a screen shot of what we have now. For Level 2, we previously created a second row to accommodate an “OR” scenario, where you could reach that level by posting a new topic or replying. Do we need to apply this to the entire structure, with one row for reply count and another for new topic count in order to allow both types of users to climb up the ranks? This was a bit tricky as we had to tweak the notification settings to make sure members don’t get duplicate DMs when they meet the criteria for both entries of that rank. Alternatively, should we consider removing the new topic requirement entirely from Level 3 and up? How do others do this?
