Skilljar: Time Zone Change - Skilljar Impact?

Question for @Bloftus, but I'm posting it here for the public.

Our courses currently occur in Pacific Daylight Time / Pacific Standard Time. As of Sunday, November 1, 2026, British Columbia will stop using daylight saving time and adopt the new year-round time zone, Pacific Time (PCT).

I know some tools, like Google Calendar, are pushing updates to account for this new time zone. What behavior can we expect from Skilljar’s vILT sessions and calendar view? The calendar view currently automatically shows times in the user’s local time zone. Will it automatically account for the new time zone?

I notice our courses are scheduled in America/Vancouver, so maybe that geographic system will account for the new zone?

We plan to email our live course attendees for courses occurring in the weeks after the change, but I would also like assurance that the calendar view will be accurate.

Thanks!

Hey @sam.walker - I checked with our Engineering team and can confirm your vILT sessions and the calendar view will show the right times after November 1. Nothing is needed on your end.

Skilljar stores session times in UTC and converts them when they're displayed, both into the session's time zone and into each learner's local time.

Our time zone library already includes British Columbia's new rule, so sessions set to America/Vancouver will display correctly without being re-saved, including any you've already scheduled for after the change.
