InSide Design: Move topics to a new category without spamming users
xiaoyu-shen
Did you encounter this dilemma: I would like to restructure my community by relocating topics, but how should I do it without spamming my community members?

This problem has been noticed through feedback from:
  1. A question from @Drew C.: Is there a way to prevent email notifications from being sent?
  2. An idea by @LPortalupi
  3. Support request(s) to disable email notification temporarily
We are looking into solutions to help you manage your platform better.

User Goal
As a community moderator, in order to keep my community organised without spamming my community members, I want to be able to move topics to another category without sending 'new topic' notification to subscribed users.

Solution
In 'Forum / Overview', you can select multiple topics and choose 'Move to forum' in 'More' dropdown. In the pop-up, when notification option is unselected, email notification will be muted for this bulk action.

Similar in 'Moderate topic' page, you can click 'Change' button next to category. In the same pop-up, you can choose a category to move this topic to. And when notification option is unselected, email notification will be muted for this action.

Please drop a message if you are interested in this concept and let us know your thoughts.

I came to the Community today to look for (or post) an Idea that would address the email spam caused by moving posts from one category to another; so yes, we’re very interested in this capability!

Every day there are a few new posts created in the ‘wrong’ category so our moderators are moving them. This results in email notifs. going out twice for the same post to subscribed users.

Also, if we do any category modification on older posts, the same thing happens, only it looks worse because the post isn’t even new!

Yes, please consider this enhancement. This is especially egregious when I’m already subscribed to a topic and/or have replied and I still get an email telling me that there’s a “new topic” that I know is an existing topic.
