Best way to surface first-time contributors in Community?

Hi everyone — quick question.

Is there a way in the admin panel to easily identify when a user is making their first-ever post?

I’m looking for something like a flag, filter, or indicator that surfaces new contributors. The goal is to:

  • Proactively acknowledge and welcome new users

  • Ensure their first post follows basic formatting guidelines

  • Catch and correct any grammar or clarity issues early

Right now, it’s a bit manual to track this, and I’d love to streamline the experience for both admins and new members.

Curious if anyone has found a built-in feature, workaround, or best practice for this.

Thanks in advance!

We added a rank for “new contributor” and the criteria is creating a new topic (their first reply is a separate rank). Once they complete this they get “New Contributor” added to their profile and this will go away once they make it to the next rank.

Not sure that helps!

@aluciani To my knowledge, the admin panel does not currently offer a native way to flag a user's first post. However, as @Gaby  suggested, you can implement a specific rank for new members. This allows you to trigger an automated private message or email welcoming them immediately after their first topic is published.

  • Ensure their first post follows basic formatting guidelines

  • Catch and correct any grammar or clarity issues early

For the two points above I recommend setting up a Zapier automation. This can trigger a Slack notification the moment a new user posts, allowing your team to proactively review and refine the content as needed.

@aluciani as @Mithila Jayalath mentioned - when someone gets that rank I also set up for them to also get an automated message recognizing that and encouraging them to continue engaging :)
