Change default topic type via URL

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know if there’s a parameter that can be added to a URL that would change the default post type to something other than a Question?

Context: We’re sending a direct link to create a new topic in our community. We’ve added a parameter to the URL that defaults the forum to what we want it to be, but we’d like to default the topic type as a “Discussion” instead of our standard “Question” default.

Any ideas?

Yep as @DannyPancratz says, there is a link available for ideas.  For discussions, as I recently mentioned in the following thread, I believe it’s technically possible (I got it more-or-less working with a bit of coding help from GPT) but it would require some custom code and testing (by someone more technical than me).

I’ve never seen anything on how to make this work.

But if you use the prebuilt widget for Create Idea Button that’s available on the Ideas landing page, it opens up to this url: community.yourdomain.com/topic/new?type=idea

I’ve tried editing the url parameter to type=conversation and type=discussion (this is what I see in using the Inspect browser tools), but neither worked for me.
