Question

Change the New Topic button so it has different text on different pages

Is it possible to change the text on the New Topic button, depending on what page you're on?

We have the text now set to ‘Ask a question’. Which is a perfectly fine line on the community pages where the main goal is to ask a question and get assistance.

But, on our groups pages we would like the button to say something like ‘Start a conversation’. Because the groups have a different purpose.

I assume this is not a native option within the software as the button is one phrase, and located in the general menu. Would this be possible with custom code?

Most likely would have to be done via Custom CSS.

Id recommend getting the Claude desktop app and chrome extension. Ask Claude to change the display info for the specific urls in question and have the urls open in tabs already so you are logged in as admin. It should give you a chunk of code and Id recommend throwing it into stage before deploying to production.

I ran something specific for my community and was able to almost get there first try as a test to prove it.

Prompt was: “I have a gainsight CC community. For url xyz I want the global navigation to be changed from “New Topic” (inserted a photo of where it was at) to “XYZ”. What Custom CSS should I add to my site to make this modification. Please use the chrome extension to go onto my browser to inspect the element and write me the proper code for this change.”
