What is the character limit for a badge name so that the full badge name appears in a user’s profile and mini-profile?

I am not seeing that badge names are displayed on users profiles. Below is my public profile for my community if that helps at all.

I also created a badge with 100 characters just to see but because the badge name is not displayed at this time, I cannot give you a definitive number.

I will say however, I do not believe this is expected behavior. @Larry is this expected behavior?

39 characters are displayed in admin profile page.

Thank you, @mitchell.gordon! I appreciate you testing.

You’re right that the profile page doesn’t show badge names. They only appear on hover, which seems to consistently display the full name.

When I look at the mini-profile that appears on hover for a post author, it seems that a variable number of characters appear for a badge name because the site font is not fixed-width. For example:

    • NEXT 2026 Attendee (appears in full, 18 characters)
    • Partner Engage Ear... (appears truncated, 18 characters)
    • Partner Engage Ch… (appears truncated, 17 characters)
    • Accredited Partner (appears in full, 18 characters)

I am hoping to give our community owners guidance in naming their badges, because they would like the badge name to appear in full in a user’s mini-profile. But it seems this is not possible because it is not a fixed-width font?

Great detective work! You're right that there's no fixed character limit. The badge name in the mini-profile is truncated based on pixel width instead of character count. Because the font is proportional, wider characters (like W or M) take up more space than narrow ones (like i or l), which is why two names with the same number of characters can behave differently.

As a practical rule of thumb, keeping badge names to ~20 characters or fewer should reliably display in full for most character combinations. If you're unsure, hover over a post from a user who has the badge; that's the mini-profile view you can test against.

Thank you for confirming, @Larry! I’m happy to have guidance to pass along to our community owners. I think they will still prefer that I test how a badge name displays in sandbox, but this guidance will save some time on badge names that are likely too long.
