Custom Code Dark Mode

Has anyone custom coded their community to have a Dark Mode?

I was thinking about trying to tackle this with the help of Claude. I wanted to ask here first to see if anyone has completed this and how they accomplished it.

Hey @mitchell.gordon - I’ve done some digging on this for you!

A few of our communities already run light/dark toggle or permanent dark mode, though those were built with support from our engineering team. Our design tokens reference covers styling for most out-of-the-box components, and Claude can lean on that to handle a good portion of the work.

The catch is that some OOTB components use hardcoded color values rather than design tokens, so they won't be reachable through that method alone. Since your community also has custom components, some of those may have hardcoded values too. Both cases need manual discovery rather than a design-token approach, so Claude likely can't style the community completely on its own.

So the realistic path: Claude can do a decent chunk of the job, but some parts will need manual checking and styling. Tagging in @adrian.jobda here too for any additional questions.

Hope this helps! 😊

Hey @mitchell.gordon

I think the Digits community successfully achieved this using Custom CSS a few years ago! Tagging in @mbonnell, who may be able to give more insight on this 😊

Was coming just for this topic! To confirm, @samanthahamlet - to get a dark/light toggle, we will likely need support from the Gainsight engineering team?
