How are you dealing with AEO/GEO issues?

Hey everyone, would love to start a conversation about what we’re all doing to combat AI engines providing wrong or misleading information?

To give you a couple of examples…

  1. We recently changed some of the language about our product and after fairly large project of crawling through every article (and a monstrous spreadsheet to keep track!) we’re now finding older AI models pulling info from 2024 using the old language.
  2. When we test questions in different AI models we’re finding that they sometimes pull information from ideas in our wishlist and offer those ideas as solutions 💀

These are just cases that we’ve tested, I dread to think what sort of information has been fed to our users in ChatGPT, Gemini etc that isn't quite right.

So I was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences and if you’re doing anything about it that’s working?

After a bit of research we found some resources on using llms.txt to create sitemaps with our most valuable resources, but we haven't tried this and don't know if this will actually help yet.

Hey @jpaul

Great question, I’m looking forward to seeing others’ replies and suggestions!

In the meantime, you might also find this thread useful too 😊

Wow this seems to be a super important and trending topic, I also posted about it here…

@samanthahamlet any chance we could organize a little online session about it?

Mainly just use the time to answer each other’s questions and share best practices.

Better even if we can get a Product Expert from Gainsight CC to join, and provide some expertise (although it’s a complex topic and I don’t expect them to have all the answers)?

Love this idea @Daniele Cmty! 🙌

I’ll make a note of this and see if we can pencil something in.

Hey @jpaul! Yeah, this is something that’s been getting my gears turning for a while now. Along with AI being misleading in some posts, we’ve also noticed a downward trend in clicks (But not impressions) in Google Search Console, which I suspect may be tied to their AI Overviews.

Here’s what we’ve done so far:

  1. Similar to your point, we’ve also had to adjust a lot of the language in our comments, posts, and articles so that AIO picks up the correct information. I dug through Search Console to get a sense of which queries we’re showing up for, searched those myself, and manually checked what the AI Overview was surfacing.

Right after adjusting information, I also went to Google and requested a refresh - This seemed to help speed up the process quite a bit.

  2. Along with removing/changing some old language, we’ve launched a new area on our community thats more optimized for AI to digest and use. You can see an example here: https://community.calendly.com/asked-answered-79/approval-required-prompt-when-logging-into-calendly-4973

We used custom Glean agents to help refine and format the information from older posts and articles, which was a huge help when dealing with some similar monstrous spreadsheets, haha.

Since launching this new space a couple of months ago, it’s already driving around 15% of our total community impressions. Google’s AI Overviews have also started pulling these posts as references, which has been really exciting to see.

  3. We just started using Profound to get a better idea on what AI as a whole is utilizing from us. Its been very nice to see insights across the board, although we’ve only been using them for about a month now, hard to tell how beneficial it will be long term.

I’ve been combating this for the past six months, and just now starting to see some fruits of my labor. AI seem to be very slow in picking up new information, so its good you’re starting now! Its a very new problem we’re all dealing with, so I’m interested to see where everyone else is at.

@DavidLiberato wow, your first post in this community and already so valuable! welcome to the Community :)

Would love to have a group chat about this as I also really don’t know where to start.

Possibly even a Group on this Community, like an “AI Council” where we can talk async as well and share questions / best practices about this very topic, to keep it all linked.

what do you folks think?

So in for an AI council. You can count Team Calendly in (@DavidLiberato and I) in!

Very interested in an AI council - also @DavidLiberato and @jillian.bejtlich amazing work! Your idea of a Asked and Answered category is very interesting👌🏼

Maybe this is the answer to this:
