How can we embed an iframe inside a Community Topic/Post body as an Admin?

Hi Community,

We are currently trying to embed an <iframe> directly inside the body of a Community Topic/Post, but we are facing some limitations and would appreciate guidance from the community.

What we’re experiencing:

  • In the Control/backend view, when adding a comment, we are able to click on to “Source” mode and insert HTML.

  • However:

    • The on front end, this option is not available.

    • This capability appears to be limited to comments only (in control view), not the main post body.

  • When editing or creating a new topic/post, we do not see a way to insert raw HTML or iframe code into the body.

Our Use Case:

  1. We have customer-facing videos that we need to embed inside the post

    • The standard “Embed media” option does not work for our company hosted video solution.

    • It requires an iframe embed code.

  2. We also need to adjust certain blog posts according to our branding standards.

    • For this, we need more control over HTML rendering inside the post body.

Our Question:

As Community Admins:

  • Is there any supported way to insert an <iframe> directly into a new topic or an existing post?

  • Is there a configuration setting that enables HTML rendering inside post bodies?

  • If not, is there a recommended workaround for embedding custom-hosted video content inside a topic?

Any guidance or documentation references would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,

I think only it only works with media supported by Embed.ly which is the add-on Gainsight uses to manage the embedding:

@jvdc That would also address one part of the issue, but how do we resolve the branding concern? For some content, we need to customize and publish posts/blogs using HTML to align with branding standards. Also, why is HTML source allowed in comments but not in the main body of topics? I’m not sure why there’s this inconsistency (or something I need to enable/configure).

I understand that Embedly may cover part of the use case, but if HTML is partially supported in comments, why isn’t it available out of the box for the main content as well?

Hey,

For the branding, are you working with title fonts, size and colors? Or is it more complex?

Because if it's just headings/titles, then I think you should be able to use the headings formatting from the following dropdown and modify them generally via CSS:

@jvdc

Thanks for the suggestion. In our case, it’s a bit more complex than just headings, fonts, or colors.

Some examples of use cases that we cannot handle with the default editor:

  • Simple image resizing (currently can’t control)
  • Creating 2 or 3 column layouts inside a post
  • Editing or restructuring tables (removing/adding rows or columns)
  • Embedding live status pages
  • Adding branded callout boxes or styled content sections
  • Embedding Our company Videos

Is there a way to enable ‘Source’ mode for the main post body, similar to how it is available for comments in the Control view?

I might be able to help with a few of the above. I’ve had success creating the documentation outside of Gainsight then inputing the html or straight copy and paste from other source into a post. Full markdown should be fully supported.

Graphs can be found here!

The videos need to be uploaded somewhere first before input into a post. A hidden youtube/vimeo can work well.

Gifs are a little harder but if you post the direct link, it will load once the page loads. Microsecond delay for this.
