Hey team,

The ‘default’ Insided/Gainsight menu structure (even with all the customization options in the mega-menu) is really not working for our users. It’s too many options, confusing and hard to navigate. So we’re casting a sideways glance at coding a custom navigation.

Before I get my devs on it though, I thought it’d be worth it to ask if anyone has done this before? Looking for any examples you’d be willing to share and tips&tricks on how you worked this out 🙂 Key things for me: making sure it appears on all pages, ensuring the profile button (and dropdown) is available, as well as making sure any elements we code in don’t interact negatively with the already existing code on Insided/Gainsight (native to the community).

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Hey @Lozfrommarketing 👋,

I’ll post a few examples of Communities using a custom header. Some choose to combine a custom header in combination with our in built mega menu as well. Some also limit the dropdown functionality on the mega menu in order to simplify the user journey on the community.

Similarly you’ll see how Debricked have customised their mega menu without using a custom header.

By adding your custom header code in Control via Customization → Header and selecting custom code only, your header will automatically appear across all pages on the community. As long as you use unique class names and IDs when you create this custom header, it won’t have any effect with the rest of the platform.

If you have the technical resource to do this on your side, please let us know if they have any questions as they are building this header. Otherwise, you can also be put in contact with our Professional Services team who will be able to build this for you too.
