We had a spam attack (pornographic content) overnight in our community.

Over 2,000 replies from 1 user in less than 1 hour. While the spam filter caught about 2/3 of the content, about 1/3 was published.

We’ve banned the user, and now we are painstakingly having to click into each topic and then scroll to the spammer’s reply to mark it as spam.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to bulk delete all replies from a user?

Also frustrating & confusing: threads where we’ve marked their reply as spam are still showing in ‘recently active’ and yet when you click into that thread, there’s no reply visible.

I’ve returned 30 min later to add this:

There is also no clear way to locate replies from this user that haven’t already been marked as spam. Whether I try using filters in the control environment for unread replies, or go to their public profile, a long list of threads is displayed but when I click into them, their reply is often already gone (marked as spam by our moderator).

To my understanding there is unfortunately no way of bulk deleting comments from a specific user :confused:

@Julian any comments?

Thank you, @Suvi Lehtovaara, and thanks for tagging Julian, too. Apologies for my delayed note of thanks!

We’ve been in touch with inSided since this frantic post, and it sounds like a lot of things went wrong to get us to this point of getting so much spam from 1 user in less than 1 hour. :(

It’s confirmed that there is no way to bulk delete or ‘mark as spam’ comments/replies.

One interesting perk to having a spammer replying on topics:

A bunch of older posts with no replies got new, legitimate replies (after we’d removed the spam) because the topics were surfaced to new community members in the Recently Active list. :sweat_smile:

No need to apologize @LPortalupi , we happened to have something similar (= a need to bulk remove replies from one user) at the time, so I had been investigating this :relaxed:

Well that’s good news :relaxed::thumbsup:

@Aleksandra I wonder if you could help convert this to an Idea.

Bulk deletion of All activities for a Spammer

remains a very useful and needed feature to take quick actions as a Moderator where after the Spammer is busted (username ) to go about individually weeding out their spammy engagement is a very inefficient way to moderate.

How to go about the control usecase to this, i.e. for ‘non-spammers’ have already been answered by @Julian here
