We are hoping to allow our Community users to share a little bit more about themselves through via their social media platforms. I have not been able to find a way to effectively do this yet. We ideally would like it to be Profile Field on the user’s profile. The issue we are experiencing is that if we use the text field, they do not hyperlink out, which feels like a strange end user experience. 

Has anyone found a way to use a text field or a different type of field that allows for a website or social media link to be shared on the profile level?

the platform specifically blocks this for security reasons 😒. Same thing in signatures on users’ posts.

There’s no work around. 

Past feedback I’ve been given is that users can highlight the url in the text field and the select to open it view right click options, etc. (I don’t like that suggestion, as I don’t think everyone knows that and I think it’s unnecessary friction)

Thanks for the link to the feature request, ​@DannyPancratz! I upvoted! We were also hoping to do a similar thing, because helping our community members showcase their expertise is foundational to our work. But, alas, it’s not possible. I hope this change comes in the future!
