Yukta

Hi everyone,
I’m still getting familiar with how ideas and forums work and wanted to understand something I’m noticing. When users create an Idea, they only select a Product Area and don’t choose any Community category or forum. We’ve usually seen Ideas stay within the Ideas section, but recently we noticed a couple of Ideas appearing under a Community/Q&A forum.

I’m curious how Ideas get associated with Community categories in this case, and whether this is expected behavior or something driven by roles or backend logic

Yep I noticed that too.

But I know that Gainsight plans to make it possible to post ideas inside a community category (which is something I have been wanting), but I think that the feature was half released…

When you want to post an idea you will now see the option to select a community category in addition to the Product Area.

However once the idea is posted you can't see on it where it was posted and you can't change the community category.

From what I’m seeing, this is the result of a bug. Optionally, users can post in categories even if this feature is disabled.

We just released the open beta for supporting Ideas and Product Updates in categories today but by default, this feature is disabled. Users should still be posting Ideas (or Product Updates if they have access) at the module level and should not have the ability to post to a category if the feature is disabled.

I’ve filed this issue and my team will address this quickly.

After doing some testing, I wanted to add a quick update. The bug seems to be when the user goes to the Create topic page, if you quickly select “Idea” while the page is loading, it will keep “Category” selection field and not show Product Update erroneously.

Like I said, we will fix quickly and I’ll post again!

Thanks, @Larry! This thread caught my eye because it reminded me that I had seen this a few days ago, but got distracted before investigating it. 😅 I really appreciate you posting some context and look forward to more info on the fix!
