Is it possible to find out which % of topics got the first response from member vs team

Hi everyone! I’m looking to get more insights into our community engagement.

Is there a way to see what percentage of topics received their first response from a community member versus someone from the team? Ideally, we'd love to track this over time to measure how peer-to-peer support is growing.

I wasn’t able to find a response here. Has anyone set this up or found a useful way to report on it?

Thanks in advance!
Petra

Out of the box, there are a couple of reports in Analytics → Exports that might help.

The Mark as answer export will tell you, for each post, information about the first reply as well as the reply that was ultimately marked as best answer (including user name, custom role, etc.). This assumes you have a specific employee role or could cross-reference employee usernames with email addresses or something. It’s also obviously limited to Question posts that have received a Best Answer.

The Post export could also be helpful, as it provides information on all replies to any post. As above, it also includes user name and custom role, so the same assumptions apply. You’d also just have to do some manual work to isolate first replies only.

Beyond that, I don't know if there’s a native way to see this information. I’m interested in what others might suggest!

Thanks @atwhite! We are focusing rather on Conversations, so data on Questions only is not that insightful unfortunately.

I’m looking at Post export, but it doesn’t have replies, or am I missing something?

It has following:
postID    topic_title    topic_url    post_url    subforum_title    category_title    post_creator    userRank    userRankTitle    userRole    post_creationTime    moderate_timeread    moderatorID    flagged    likes    module    time_since_previous_post    status

In Gainsight terminology, the Topic is any parent item (a new Question, Discussion, or Idea), whereas a post also includes replies to those parent items. So topic_title and topic_url show the parent item, but post_url will show the replies as well.

Here’s an example from our Post export:

The topic_url is the same for all of these posts, because it’s a single Topic (a community/forum thread), but the post_url is different, because those are the URLs for each individual comment/reply in that thread. They all have a unique ID at the end of the URL that corresponds to the postID number.

From there, looking at post_creationTime, you can see what the first reply was. Then, depending on how your community is set up to identify employees, other columns (like userRank, userRole, post_creator, etc.) can tell you whether it was an employee or not.

It’s definitely a bit manual! 😅
