Question

Spam automations for edited comments

Hi team,

We noticed for spam automations that if a user makes a comment, such as “Great” and then edits the comment to be something that would otherwise be caught in spam prevention automations (like a curse word for example), it doesn’t get flagged at all.

I don’t think this is the biggest deal and highly unlikely, but my team does have concerns about this so I wanted to check if this is a known issue or if there’s a setting we can update in Control to avoid this potential spam edge case?

Hey @Jen Hanley

Let me check around and see if that’s possible - to my knowledge, edits in comments can’t be caught by spam once the comment has gone LIVE.

But let me re-confirm and come back to you.

@Jen Hanley - We see this a fair amount in our community, and it’s concerning. People have figured out that if they post, then come back to it, they can get away with posting inappropriate content. I agree that having spam filters watch all content would be an impactful measure to protecting our communities.

Hm thanks both for the input. Is there a way to disable endusers from being able to edit their comments once it has gone live?

Out of curiosity, do you perhaps have roles set to unlimited for how long they can edit their posts? If so, you could create a new role with the 1 hour window that is assigned to new members upon registration. Once they rank up to a level of your choosing, that role could be removed.

We do have that as the default setting for registered users but it doesn’t seem to apply to comments, just posts.

Hi everyone,

I hear you all and I do agree on the value this creates.

I’ve raised this with the team and will loop back here soon.

Hi all,

Just looping back here to let you know that this use case is planned on the roadmap for AI Moderation. No confirmed date yet, but it’s definitely on the team’s radar!
