Sporadic issue with embedding Vimeo links

Hi there. We are have a recurring issue with Vimeo links.

At times it all works fine, and then once in a while without any reason that I can see the system decides Vimeo links are not supported. Sometimes, but not every time, when this happens embedded videos in existing posts also disappear. Then after a few days it allows videos to be embedded again. Is this something I can do anything to resolve?

I had this issue on other platforms and Gainsight. Sometimes, the url you choose is important with Vimeo. When you are in a Vimeo video, hit the share link instead of taking the url at the top of the page. When I switched to doing this, I had better results.

Sometimes the link Vimeo provides is not their final link for the video causing the issue, Ive seen.

Thanks Mitchell. Unfortunately it either works with this kind of link or doesn’t work with any of the links, I have tried with the main link, the embed link, the manage link etc. and get the same issue with all

We use Vimeo as well and have also encountered this issue. I think that there’s something funky that happens if the video hasn’t been fully processed by Vimeo before attempting to embed it in the Community. It won’t embed until it has reached an indeterminate amount of completion (uploading, optimization, etc.) on the Vimeo side. Until then, it gives you a weird URL and Gainsight won’t embed it (similar to what @mitchell.gordon said).

I’ve also seen that when that happens, you sometimes need to completely clear out the attempted embed, save the article draft, refresh the page, and try again later to completely clean the slate. Otherwise, sometimes even when the video IS ready, Gainsight still “remembers” the old, incomplete version you attempted to embed, and it still doesn’t like it.

Not the most technical explanation, and I definitely don’t understand how it all works, but this is what has worked for me!

    +1 to both recommendations above from @mitchell.gordon & @atwhite

It’s mostly been a Vimeo issue — sometimes the link isn’t fully ready for sharing if it’s a new upload, which prevents it from embedding properly here. Links that have been live for a while usually don’t run into this problem.

If you’re still facing the issue, I’d recommend reaching out to Support to double-check that it’s not a bug in your instance.
