Hi ​@mbuuck1 - the HTML that you can add within a community topic or post is indeed quite limited, primarily for security reasons.  Any kind of advanced scripting will be stripped out when saving.  The editor is available, for example, to help with debugging the kind of small formatting issues that are common with HTML (especially when content has been pasted from another application).  And it can be really handy to add a DIV if you want to apply some specific formatting via CSS.
