User post in moderation deadend

We have the AI moderator on, so when someone starts a thread, they get the banner that it’s being reviewed before publishing. This seems like a dead end, though. To the best of my knowledge (and I could be wrong!):

  • If they reload the page, it just gives them a fresh form to post something.
  • There’s no email notification when it has been posted.

What’s the intended path the user is supposed to take? Are they supposed to then go to their profile to see when it’s published?

This is the case for users/communities with AI moderation on. I believe you can change the display message on the alter when they post. Maybe @Yoeri can help with some context on how to change that display message for you. I know Im interested as well here to be honest.

You are correct, at this moment in time, users do not receive a message or notification that the post has been posted. 99% of the time the topic or reply will be there if they refresh the page. Our community talked about changing the verbiage around this to better indicate what will happen but have not accomplished this yet.

Great questions. Looping in @Larry to provide more insights here - his team is overseeing the AI moderator experience.

I’ve seen this banner many times when posting on this community and it has confused me at times. Most of the time, when refreshing the page my post was already published. The in-you-face banner seems to suggest there will be a very strict moderation happening though and isn’t the greatest user experience.

@mitchell.gordon @Jef Vanlaer @SimonH Thanks for the detailed feedback, this is a gap in the experience and we are aware of it.

To answer your question directly: right now there isn't a great path for the poster. Posts go into a pending state before the AI Moderator reviews them, and if the post is clean it's typically auto-approved within a few minutes. But we don't have a good way to surface that back to the poster as the "under review" banner fires and then nothing follows it up. Refreshing the thread after a minute or two is the current workaround, which we know isn't discoverable and is far from ideal.

We're rethinking the approach here. The current design interrupts every poster with a review warning when the vast majority of posts sail through automatically. Our goal is to move toward trusting users by default; no banner for normal posts, and clear communication only when the AI moderator actually flags something. We're not ready to commit to specifics on the "your content has been flagged" notification yet since that requires some additional platform work, but this is the direction we are actively building toward.

We've also recently uncovered a bug where trusted community members with configured role exclusions were still hitting the review queue when they shouldn't be. That's a regression we're actively investigating and plan to fix shortly.

We're actively prioritizing these fixes and wanted to be transparent about where things stand.

Thanks for the update, @Larry. Nice to see this is actively being elaborated, and I think the path forward is right: no message for normal posts, alert when your post is flagged and it will take longer to publish it.
