What's the difference about the replies in my profile vs comments?

Hi! Community newbie over here!

I was watching a training session recording (we are implementing CE), and by chance, realized that the number of replies in the top right menu vs clicking on my profile → replies doesn’t match. Is this intended behaviour? If that’s the case, what’s one counter including that the other doesn’t?

I’ve noticed this too - I think it has to do with things in closed and/or retired groups not being counted. I think it also relates to the issues I raised here:

that did not really end up going anywhere for some reason. I’m happy to make a new post about it if that would get some actual traction.

Just realized I posted this in the incorrect Group and can’t delete it 🤦
Please, can be moved into Discuss Gainsight Products → Customer Communities (CC) or deleted, and I will repost @revathimenon ?

Thanks for sharing!

Let me just double check this & come back to you.

@romihache I’ve seen these inconsistencies in our own community in some places as well. They are often caused by activity in groups. In some places these are counted, in other places they are not.

Although in this case: there might be another reason for the difference. Potentially, one of these numbers counts the total number of replies, while the other only counts the number of topics you replied on. As you can leave multiple replies on 1 topic (as I do now), this would lead to different numbers.

Checked a bit in our own community: it seems to be the group thing…

Edit: this seems to be confirmed after adding this reply, as both numbers went up, so my second hypothesis is false.

Thank you @revathimenon !
Just in case, I just noticed that the same difference is reflected in topics: the top-right counter is showing less topics than the ones I see accessing my profile

Thank you both for your answers @bradley @Jef Vanlaer
We are just in the initial implementation phase, and as I couldn’t find anything in the documentation, I figured I'd ask about it in case we find the same in our own Community in the future 😅

Hey @romihache - totally understand that these counters are confusing.  As @bradley indicated, I can confirm that it’s related to the counter on your profile not including replies in private groups and categories.
