Original discussion was here

We use Single Sign-on and we classify users by the type like customers, partners and guests (those who are neither customers nor partners in our system) and we would like to premoderate only these posts submitted by guests and turn it off for all other roles (we use custom roles for that.

This is really interesting! I like the idea. Out of curiosity, how are you assigning the custom roles? Is that a manual process or have you found a way to automate it?

I think we’re looking to add this as custom user roles that are permitted to bypass the held for moderation feature. It’s easier to add user roles to the configuration than to manually assign it to each of the user roles.

Thanks all for sharing your thoughts! I think it’s a great idea to reduce unnecessary manual work in premoderation, especially in B2B communities. I’ll put this idea to ‘open’ and collect more votes and feedback :)

This is a great idea. The current option is to either moderate everyone or moderate no one. Most of us likely fall somewhere in-between.

I have a similar set of users: employees, customers, and guests. I trust these employees and customers and have no problem allowing them to contribute without moderation from the moment they register. They have their own respective custom roles assigned by SSO so they’re easy to identify in the community. But then there are the Guests. I’m glad they stopped by, but I don’t know who they are or their intentions. I’d like to see what they’re posting before it’s visible to other community members. I would not stop them from posting a topic, but I would require moderator approval. If their topic is legitimate, the moderator can approve and add the user to a Guest-Approved custom role so they can contribute without moderation in the future.

I love this concept. However, we have a slightly different use case.

We do not want to approve all posts for the entire community, but we would like the ability to turn on pre-moderation for a specific discussion forum (community) category. That gives us content control over a topic that could have potential security risks for our customers (data integrity) if not monitored closely.
