We are experiencing that some users are sending spam as Direct Messages to other users on the platform.

I realized that those users are always new ones or with no interactions in the platform.

I would like to have the possibility to restrict which users have permissions to send Direct Messages using certain roles, this way we can say that the role “New to the community” does not have the ability to send DM.

Cheers,

Hi @alfonsmr! I’ve merged an older idea into this one as the use case is clearer here. Thanks a lot!

I would absolutely love this feature. Right now we’re using custom code to entirely prohibit anyone from initiating a private message from the front end, which is definitely not an ideal solution. We’d really like our regular members to be able to DM, but not brand new users.

We have a tiered membership level system and are interested in allowing some members to have the dm function based on their custom role.

This is critical to keep our community safe. We want to make the Community very open, but we have to keep our customers safe. We recently had a hacker try to share a link to hack their bank account information. We need to ensure that only users with a Custom Role ‘Confirmed Customers’ are able to message other community users.

I think it is not bad idea to link private messages to ranks - you achieve certain rank and you are able to use private messages. Newest users have lowest ranks and they are not able to use them.

This idea has been open for a year, is there any update on this?

This is so crucial for my community as we currently have DMs turned off.

Our legal team has flagged this as well and we would like to have this capability.

To add to this it would be similarly helpful to be able to restrict certain people from RECEIVING direct messages

For example - we might have an executive who posts occasionally, but does not want to get inundated with messages from customers through this channel, nor to give the impression that they are ignoring them

Came here today looking to see if this was possible. Discovered I already voted for it. Commenting for visibility and to join the chorus that this should be considered.
